IPS C Silendra Babu: UPSC Success Story

Silendra Babu is 59 years old now. He was born in the year 1962. A 1987 batch officer of Tamil Nadu cadre, Silendra Babu’s life has been an inspiration to many IPS and IAS officers.

Silendra Babu studied at Government Higher Secondary School Kuzhithurai. He completed B.Sc in Agriculture from Agricultural College and Research Institute, Madurai. Later he went to Coimbatore for his studies.

She was awarded a PhD on the thesis “Missing Children” by the University of Madras and also completed her MBA in Human Resources in 2013.

IPS C. Silendra Babu: What was the inspiration for UPSC CSE?

While in school, Silendra wanted to become a doctor, but could not. He got into the college and was one of the backbenchers there. How sad they were during their first two years of college, he said in an interview. However, one day, an alumnus of his college came to deliver a speech. He was selected for UPSC Civil Services Examination. It was he who said that even those sitting at the end of the class can become IAS officers. If not IAS then IPS officer. This line hit Cylendra. He was always a part of NCC in school and even after that. He loved the uniform. So he decided to start preparing for Civil Services.

UPSC Attempts & Postings:

After completing his studies, Silendra Babu was selected by the Indian Overseas Bank as an officer. He was posted in Trivandrum. Thereafter, he appeared for the UPSC CSE in 1987 and got selected in the Indian Police Service. He was given Tamil Nadu cadre. He trained at the National Police Academy Hyderabad and his first posting was as Assistant Superintendent of Police, Gobichettipalayam, Salem and Dharmapuri.

He was later promoted to the post of SP posted in Dindugal district, Chengalpattu, Sivagangai, Cuddalore and Kancheepuram. He was also posted as deputy. Commissioner of Police, Adyar, Chennai City and then rose to the rank of Deputy. Inspector General of Police, Villupuram Range.

He was the Joint Commissioner of Police, Chennai City and later became the DIG Police, Trichy. Presently, he is the ADGP, Coastal Security Group, Tamil Nadu.

He gained popularity when he wrote the book ‘You too can become an IPS officer’ in 2008. Other books include Boys and Girls – Be Ambitious, Principles of Success in Interview, Ningalam IPS Adigari Agalam Etcetera.
