Modern education requires interdisciplinary and skill based learning

To address modern problems in a sustainable manner, today’s students need to have a unique perspective, be critical thinkers and have an receptive worldview. Therefore, a linear education system may no longer be helpful. Universities need to see themselves as global-class institutions and adopt a transdisciplinary approach towards education that promises to enhance the learning and development of the students.

It has often been observed that students passively absorb material presented by an expert, and then memorize them instead of applying creative solutions and navigating challenging situations. While traditional pedagogical teachings have helped human progress so far, now that the economy is developing at a rapid pace, a paradigm shift in rote learning and rote learning is important. This means moving away from traditional methods of teaching and being equipped to provide students with a holistic and inclusive curriculum that opens their minds, prepares them to tackle challenges effectively, is industry ready. It inculcates respect for ideas and prepares them to be leaders. true feeling.

a learner driven education system

Not every student is the same, so a standardized education approach will no longer be beneficial. Students should be offered an individualized curriculum where learning is tailored to suit an individual’s interest. Though a student may need to choose a particular subject to pursue a career, this should not deter them from pursuing the subjects they are passionate about. Essentially a law student should be given the opportunity to study design, an engineering student should be allowed to learn business management etc.

Industry in the Classroom Approach

More than reading or listening, students understand a concept better when they learn it through real-life experiences. Thus, it is time that teachers stop expecting students to apply certain methods to arrive at prewritten conclusions and instead encourage them to think creatively, form their own distinctive perspectives, and foster critical thinking. Encourage giving which are much needed skills today. This approach will eventually prepare students to solve real-world problems.

A mix of academic and extra-curricular activities for holistic learning

Although it is always beneficial to be armed with theoretical knowledge, having a strong base of soft skills is also a very important driver of success in today’s day and age. Students should be prepared to participate in sports or cultural activities so as to realize the potential of extra-curricular activities in building a student’s character apart from education and domain knowledge. Social internship is also an interesting concept which can motivate the students in a positive way and inculcate the necessary human and social skills which is necessary to excel in life apart from academics.

For higher education institutions to prepare their students for careers, it will mean equipping them with skills that will help them navigate the waters of the workplace landscape of the future. In future, being literate on relevant subjects, media, technology and information front will lose relevance fast. But a healthy cocktail of academics mixed with important soft skills like leadership, productivity and collaboration will be of utmost importance.
